St Mary's Parish Pastoral Council 2010
The inaugural meeting of St Mary's Parish Pastoral Council took place in September 2010 when the new council was formed, made up of both elected and nominated members . The following is a list of the members of your Parish Pastoral Council. Fr. Liam Murray, Fr. Declan Shannon, Paul Blackie, Pat Byrne, Helen Breslin, Michael Coen, Nancy Connolly, Liam Dooley, Maureen Fagan, Marie Harkins, Ela Jacykiewicz, Sylvia Kesperska, Brid Kenny, Kathleen McFadden, David Murray, Barry Sheehan & Yvonne Skelly.
Initial training for the Council members was facilitated by Sr Anna Burke , Diocesan Faith Development Co-ordinator, to enable members gain a better understanding of our role within the Parish .Following the completion of this training, meetings have been held on a monthly basis. The first full Pastoral Council meeting was held in January at which the following Short and Long term objectives were discussed and agreed. Among the short term objectives are; 1. The identification, formation and training of Baptism Teams in conjunction with Moate Parish Council as part of the development of the cluster policy.
Encouraging participation in the Celebration of Mass and particularly by
encouraging congregational singing. 3. To develop strategies in making our churches more welcoming and it is proposed to hold an inaugural Hospitality day in St Mary's Church on Pentecost Sunday. 4. To aid the development of Cell Groups within the parish thus encouraging small spiritual community groups to be established and supported.
Among the present long term objectives to be undertaken are : 1. To address the needs of and encourage involvement of young people in our Parish and to facilitate, with them, innovative projects in this regard. 2. To investigate the possibility of organising a Parish Mission/Novena as part of the preparatory programme for the International Eucharistic Congress 2012. 3. To organise inclusive programmes for the many International parishioners. 4. To develop positive publicity for the events in the Parish through the local media.
Progress is still ongoing with the refurbishment of St Mary's Hall in Northgate Street to develop a Youth Resource Centre under the direction of Foroige Youth Organisation and ACT .
Work continues with the redevelopment of the Parochial Centre with the recent opening of the refurbished meeting rooms and office facilities . This has enabled the Presbytery to be refurbished and thereby providing suitable living accommodation for our priests.
